Position Responsibilities
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled facilities maintenance operator that has mechanical experience to join our team. Under general supervision of the Water Facilities Manager or Division Superintendent, you will ensure the proper maintenance, operation, and repair of equipment and systems within our water filtration facilities. Your expertise will be critical in maintaining the efficiency and safety of plant operations, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations. You will be key contributor to the overall quality of water treatment processes. You will also provide relief support as a Water Treatment Operator, providing coverage for shifts as needed.
Essential Job Functions:

- Plant Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, inspection, and repair of filtration equipment, pumps, motors, valves, pipes, and other mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the water filtration plant.
- System Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in filtration systems, motors, and other plant equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on all equipment, identifying potential issues before they cause downtime or damage.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs of all maintenance and repair work, including equipment readings, repairs made, and any chemicals or materials used.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and environmental regulations to ensure the safety of plant personnel, equipment, and the surrounding community.
- Equipment Calibration: Calibrate and adjust water treatment equipment as necessary to maintain proper operation and ensure water quality standards are met.
- Collaboration: Work closely with plant management, operators, engineers, contractors, and other team members to resolve issues and improve plant performance.
- Operational Support: Assist in the daily operation of the water treatment plant, ensuring that water quality meets regulatory standards and optimal flow rates are maintained. Will provide operational shift relief periodically.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency maintenance requests and assist in promptly resolving urgent operational issues.
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in water treatment or mechanical maintenance is preferred.
- Experience: At least 5 years of experience in maintaining and operating water treatment facilities or similar industrial plants.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of water filtration systems, mechanical and electrical systems, and equipment maintenance procedures.
- Certifications: An F-class license is preferred, or you must be able to achieve an F-class license within twelve months.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to resolve complex issues in a timely manner.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including the ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, work in noisy areas, and work in various weather conditions. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of safety practices in an industrial environment and familiarity with OSHA standards.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members and supervisors.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Experience with SCADA systems or other automation controls used in water treatment operations.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards for water treatment and environmental safety.
- Familiarity with water treatment chemicals and their safe handling and application.
