Submit Your Response to the Proposed National Primary Drinking Water Regulation
MI-AWWA is collecting comments from members to submit to the US EPA regarding the proposed national primary drinking water regulation for six per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Michigan is unique in that it can relate the implications of past experience responding to a PFAS MCL and (2) offer concerns regarding adapting to the federal standard having made investments to meet a state standard. Please use this webform to submit comments to the Michigan section by Friday 5/19/2023. Your comments will be compiled and submitted in aggregate to the US EPA at the end of May. Please respond by Friday, May 19.

- Size of System: Less than 10,000 connections; 10,000-25,000 connections; 25,000-50,000 connections; more than 50,000 connections
- Cost of Treatment: EPA’s estimate is uniformly viewed as low. Please comment on cost of design, price escalation / availability of carbon, etc., price escalation / timing for construction and any other components with which you have experience and/or concern.
- Feasibility of reliable treatment at the method reporting level (MRL) for PFOA and PFOS: For example, will monitoring costs to manage treatment be significantly more than routine compliance monitoring? Please comment.
- Communication Challenges: Retention of the current PFOA and PFOS health advisories, setting the MCL for PFOA and PFOS at the MRL, and the Hazard Index MCL are all communication challenges. Please comment about these challenges.
