Purpose: The Young Professionals Committee was established to facilitate interaction among young professionals in the drinking water industry, to promote involvement in AWWA among an age group traditionally inactive, and to provide a springboard for new member involvement in other Michigan Section AWWA committees. |

Committee Membership: The Young Professionals Committee is currently composed of approximately 25 members. The Committee does not have a cap on membership, but requires attendance at a minimum of two meetings per year to be included as an active member. The Committee encourages members to attend one meeting per year of another Section Committee in order to maintain active membership in the Young Professionals Committee. |

Functions: The committee serves and will continue to serve the Section by:
*encouraging young professionals to become actively involved in AWWA at the section and national level;
*providing an open environment in which young and new professionals can meet and exchange ideas;
*facilitating opportunities to learn and grow professionally by sponsoring local lunch meetings, technical tours, and other career development programs;
*developing contacts and exploring the possibility of joint educational and developmental programs with local university engineering associations;
*hosting a meet and greet social event at the Annual Section Meeting allowing younger and new members an opportunity to network and exchange information and experiences with multi year members (active as well as non active);
*reimbursing the conference fee for first-time attending members at the Annual Section Meeting, age 35 and under;
*subsidizing the annual AWWA membership fee by 50% for the first year of a new membership for individuals age 35 and under;
*conducting the “News from the Field” portion at the Annual Section Meeting in Kalamazoo;
*conducting Fresh Ideas poster contest annually and sending the State winner to national to compete;
*continuing participation in monthly YP national level conference calls.
